Tree Felling Service

Hello, and welcome to the Basic Arbor tree felling page of my website, obviously if you’re here you have a problem with a tree.

I hope my experiences of dealing with people with problems with trees that I have accumulated through the years through with my tree works business Basic Arbor, can help and sympathise with you

When I look at a tree to be removed there is a bitter sweet emotion present, my personal appreciation of a tree, in simplistic terms, it cleans the air we breathe, it gives us shade, its roots stabilise soil which would otherwise possibly erode, its roots can take up water which can be useful sometimes,  it’s a habitat for wildlife and its graced us with its appearance. However, being realistic your peace of mind is so important. Your tree can become problematic with the following:

  • The tree can outgrow its position. from my own personal experience in my own garden I have removed trees and replanted. we all see and read the little information  ticket attached to the tree in the garden centre, stating 6ft in 10 years, the only thing is, they don’t stop growing after 10 years if anything they become established and speed up particularly if they like the soil and position they are in.
  • Should you have had to remove a tree, or you have moved to a new property and you are looking to fil in a gap or just make your garden more private, we tend to look for fast growing trees which can in the future turn into a liability for us.
  • Sometimes your garden just needs a change.
  • The tree can possibly cause damage to drains (illustration 2)
  • The tree can have an impact on the valuation of your home. Should you want to sell your property in the future. “Surveyors look for possible problems associated with tree roots”.
  • A tree can become poorly with decay, cavities, fungal infections, parasites or just die, making them Senile/Hazardous ( illustration 3) and please remember you have a duty of care regarding  your tree, look for the obvious signs so action can be taken
  • The tree needs removing because  just basically the area is to be developed to improve our lifestyles. (Illustration 4)
  • The tree is blocking out light, or encroaching the neighbours property. This is a major cause of dispute between neighbours. (illustration 5)
  • The tree is causing the owner or the neighbour to worry over it dropping vegetation
  •  with the storms with high winds occurring more recently these days the possibility of mechanical/structural failure of branches or the tree root system. From our experience, this is a major cause of worry for tree owners particularly on larger established mature trees.
  • As I call it, Basic tree anxiety, feeling guilty about cutting a tree down, “it is a living thing after all”, or leaving it and then worrying about the damage the roots are causing or should it blow over, or a branch brake off and damage your or your neighbour’s property or god forbid fall and  hurt you or a member of your family or even a member of the public
  • More cost effective to remove a tree early rather than spend years continuously reducing it
  • It’s a balance against what the tree can give us against its potential danger should it continue to exist.

And, well the sweet part of my emotions in my statement. As tree surgeons based in Wrexham and Chester for over 30 years we are thank full for the work that trees have, and will be giving us. We see the tree as a challenge and respect the potential dangers it presents in its removal or reduction and challenged to provide a safe and efficient conclusion to the work required.

There is a percentage of customers we speak to whom have had previous tree works done by other tree works business, they say “they took one of our trees down, they were the cheapest we could find, however, they arrived a week later than agreed, they damage the neighbours fence, and we had to clean up a fair bit after them. But at the end of the day we were just so grateful to get the tree removed”.

I have spent my entire career continuously  improving  my business and  I hope by now I have a bit more of a understanding of what level of quality of work the customer deserves, and from our repeat work through customers we have dealt with for decades, seeing the positive feedback I am encouraged even further.

One of our newer customer sent me an email after we successfully completed some work for them and it read: “Truly amazed of what can be achieved with the right attitude, Freddy arrived at the agreed time, him and his team were very pleasant and professional and completed the job in the specified time without causing any damage and left my garden clean and tidier better than before!”.

The free quote:

In relation to the cost of  removing/felling a tree it does come down to size and position, “three words that can so change the cost”. It is so important that the customer does not start drawing their own conclusions as to the cost of a job and start looking for the cheapest person that graces their doorstep. The customer will not see the job as we do. The customer may see problems such as power cables, telephone cables, sheds, greenhouses, the neighbours conservatory, the road, the footpath. These are hazards and obstacles we deal with every day and we don’t lose any sleep over them, neither should you. I will look at your tree and with an arsenal of 30 plus years of experience, and understanding, provide and, discuss the quote with you.

What Basic Arbor tree services can offer you:

  • Helpful advice and a free quote.
  • Jobs large or small you will be shown the same courtesy and consideration.
  • A prompt, professional service.
  • Fully insured.
  • Fully qualified and trained staff Competent and experienced in the tree works industry.
  • Sufficient personnel on your job.
  • Sufficient equipment such as chippers, stump grinders, hydraulic platforms, cranes, and 4×4 equipment etc, on your job.

The removal of your tree. The Risk. The assessment.

  • The removal of the tree method 1, the majority of our felling work requires the tree to be felled by section. That is a fully trained tree surgeon wearing a safety harness will climb into the crown of the tree and attach his climbing rope to a suitable anchor point. this will enable him to move around the tree safely. They will then also attach a second lowering/working rope. This will enable them to lower branch by branch, section by section, by rope in a controlled manner. This way is  slower but there is minimal risk of damage to property or even your lawn or paving surfaces. (illustrations  6, 7, 8, 9 and 10).
  • The removal of the tree method 2. This method is the cheapest but seldom possible.  If there is sufficient room and there is very little risk of damage, we can fell it in its entirety, for safety reasons or just peace of mind the tree may need winching to persuade it to go in the desired direction.  If we don’t have access for our Mercedes Unimog with its 20 ton winch. (Illustration 11). we can use a tirfor manual winch.
  • The removal of tree method  3. We have a 60ft cherry picker at our disposal, this is such a valuable asset to us. Some dead trees are very hazardous and brittle. the risk involved in conventionally climbing them is very high and if felling them in their entirety is not an option, our cherry picker can allow the tree surgeon to work safely and securely in the confines of the cage, they can concentrate on the dismantling the tree and not worry about premature failure of climbing rope anchor points. (illustration 12, 13, 14 and 15)
  • Removal of the tree method 4. Where possible a combination of these methods. Your job will be assessed, and with my years of experience, the equipment, and workforce at our disposal and with the right organisation the job can be done efficiently, and safely. The less time we spend on your tree the better the price we can give.
  • The tree debris is chipped on site, you can either keep it for mulch, or it can be removed.
  • The wood can be left on site in manageable lengths/size, which once dried you can use for logs for your log burner if you have one. Or we can remove the wood.
  • We can treat the stump with herbicide to prevent it regrowing, or we can stump grind it (please see my page on stump grinding on this website).

Last but not least, don’t forget about the authorities, your tree could be subject to a TPO or it could be in a conservation area particularly if it’s an older mature tree, better to check. These days ignorance is no defence. It’s simple enough to contact your local council and ask for the tree officer.

Thanks, Freddy
